HAYLEY MATTHEWS NAMED CPL AMBASSADOR, CHAMPIONING WOMEN’S CRICKET AND HEALTH & WELLNESS ACROSS THE CARIBBEAN

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is proud to announce the appointment of Hayley Matthews as an official tournament ambassador. A trailblazer on and off the pitch, Matthews will play a pivotal role in CPL’s mission to grow the game among girls and women, while also leading initiatives around health and wellness across the region.

The West Indies Women’s captain and T20 World Cup winner has rapidly become one of the most recognisable faces in global women’s cricket. Known for her fierce talent, professionalism, and dedication to the sport, Matthews embodies the spirit and energy of the Caribbean. Her appointment marks a significant milestone in the CPL’s continued commitment to inclusivity and fan engagement.

As a CPL ambassador, Matthews will focus on two key pillars:

  • Women’s and Girls’ Participation: Working closely with CPL and regional partners, Matthews will spearhead programs and activations aimed at inspiring the next generation of female cricketers. From grassroots clinics to school outreach, her influence will help break down barriers and open doors for more young women to take up the sport.
  • Health & Wellness Campaigns: With CPL’s growing platform and community presence, Matthews will lead campaigns promoting healthy lifestyles, mental well-being, and fitness. Her own example as a high-performance athlete who has diabetes will be central to encouraging fans to embrace healthier choices.

“We are thrilled to welcome Hayley Matthews to the CPL family in this new role,” said Pete Russell, CPL CEO. “Hayley’s impact on the global stage has been nothing short of inspirational. Her presence will not only elevate the visibility of women’s cricket, but will also ensure CPL continues to be a fan-centric and inclusive tournament for everyone.”

Commenting on her new role, Hayley Matthews said: “It’s an honour to join CPL as an ambassador and help shape the future of cricket in the region. I’m passionate about giving more girls the chance to play and enjoy the game, and I’m excited to use this platform to promote healthier, more active lives across our communities.”

With her charisma, commitment, and connection to fans, Hayley Matthews is set to further enrich the CPL experience – making it more representative, accessible, and empowering for all.

Hayley Matthews will be at the following events in Barbados this weekend:

12pm to 6pm, Saturday 19 July, CPL’s Trophy Tour at National Botanical Gardens

12pm to 4pm, Sunday 20 July, CPL’s Health & Wellness Day at Usain Bolt Sports Complex

ABOUT THE CARIBBEAN PREMIER LEAGUE

First started in 2013, the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is a franchise-based T20 format cricket tournament that combines two of the most compelling aspects of Caribbean life – dramatic cricket and a vibrant Carnival atmosphere. The broadcast and digital viewership in 2025 was 1.17 billion to make it one of the most watched leagues in world cricket. Trinbago Knight Riders are the current Republic Bank CPL champions, and the other franchise teams are Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jamaica Kingsmen, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots and Saint Lucia Kings.

The 2026 tournament will take place from 7 August to 20 September.
